Yet, the Briar Woods High School boys lacrosse team seemed up for the challenge against rival Stone Bridge High School on June 2 in Ashburn. In front of their home crowd, the Falcons used an aggressive faceoff game to battle back from a four-goal, fourth quarter deficit to even the game at 8-8 with three minutes to play. Ashburn, Va. — After watching the Stone Bridge High School softball team play for a state championship in 2013, then-eighth grader Jess Osborne had hopes of returning to the state playoffs in 2014. However, those dreams were cut short by a VHSL 5A North region semifinal loss to Patrick Henry in early June 2014. In 2015, the Lady Bulldogs once again fell short, losing in the Conference 14 third-place game to Broad Run in late May. As the rain continued to pour down, the Pride scratched across an early run and got a three-hit shutout performance from senior starter Nate Craner, to earn Heritage baseball’s first ever conference title, 3-0, in front of a home crowd in Leesburg. “Playing with a lead has helped us out every time we’ve had one this year,”…

But the girls lacrosse team at Riverside High School is different. In the program’s first season in 2016, the Lady Rams won more than a few games, finished four games above .500, and even hosted a group playoff game. Their young team was primed and ready to make a statement in 2017. On May 22, Riverside – who finished the regular season undefeated – got the moment they had worked so hard for…

We came out with fire,” Heritage junior centerfielder Colin Shea said. “We didn’t want to go home. We weren’t ready for that. None of us are ready for that.” In…
