Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Power Train and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce Rock Ridge High School junior Sid Ravikanti as the Power Train and LoCoSports Teammate of the Month for June 2019.
As postseason play started, Ravikanti continued to dominate the area’s doubles scene, along with All-LoCo Player of the Year Momin Khan. Ravikanti and Khan won the Potomac District doubles and team titles, finished runners up in the VHSL Region 5C doubles and team tournament, and helped the Phoenix advance to a VHSL 5A State semifinal in the team tournament. With his effort, Ravikanti earned first team All-LoCo honors.
“Sid is a fighter. No matter how tough his opponent is, he will not give up until the final point has finished,” Rock Ridge head coach Chris Schamus. “His commitment and dedication to playing well is what motivates his teammates to play at their best. Sid has incredible sportsmanship and sets an example for his teammates and his opponents as to how the game of tennis should be played.”
While his play speaks for itself, where Ravikanti stands out is through his leadership and grit, which kept the Phoenix at the top of Loudoun’s boys tennis rankings throughout the season.
“Sid is a leader on and off the court. He is everyone’s biggest supporter even when he himself may not be playing at his best,” Schamus said. “Sid has this way of putting everyone around him in a good mood even if they’ve had a bad day. He’s the first person to console a teammate when they’re down, and he’s the first person to hug a teammate when they finish their match. He may have some crazy energy in him at times, but the team wouldn’t be the same without him.”
The Power Train and LoCoSports Teammate of the Month is selected from nominations based on student-athletes having a great team-first mentality, hustle, work ethic, attitude and heart.
All athletes and teammates of the month are invited to Power Train for a free month of training.
