Purcellville (February 13, 2016) — Woodgrove High School sophomore Camryn Dolby has made an early verbal commitment to continue her softball career at Boston College starting in the 2018-2019 school year.

“It has been a long process, and I worked really hard to be the pitcher and player I am today,” the 5-foot-9 Dolby said. “I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I will continue to work hard to be ready to play ACC softball.”

LoCoMusingsBannerIn the fall of 2018, Dolby will join the Division I Eagles – and fifth-year head coach Ashley Obrest – as a pitcher. Obrest has led Boston College to a 2-0 start in 2016 after winning a pair of games in the Kajikawa Classic. In 2015, Obrest helped the Eagles to a 27-24 finish including a 6-16 mark in the daunting Atlantic Coast Conference.

One of several reasons Dolby was interested in Boston College was Obrest and the softball atmosphere she has created in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

“I chose Boston College because it ranks high academically; I want to major in business, and BC has one of the top business schools in the country,” Dolby said. “The coaching staff is awesome, and they will make me even better. Boston is a great city, and after walking around BC’s beautiful campus, I knew it was where I wanted to go.”

Following her freshman year at Woodgrove, Dolby was named first-team all-Conference 21, all-VHSL 4A North region, all-VHSL 4A state and all-LoCo. Photo by Becky Alexander.

Playing for a winning coach will not be new for Dolby as she had the opportunity to spend her freshman year at Woodgrove playing for one of the most renowned coaches in Virginia State history. In Woodgrove’s first five softball seasons since the school opened in 2010, head coach Joe Spicer has led the Wolverines to five state championship appearances including state titles in 2012 and 2014.

“Woodgrove has been fortunate to have a very talented team along with a great coaching staff,” said Dolby who plays travel softball for Wagner’s 3n2. “I am so glad to be a part of it.”

Playing softball since she was five-years-old, Dolby’s teammates, coaches and dad have always pushed her to get better.

“My dad has always been a big part of my softball; he has coached me almost the entire time. He works with me every day on both pitching and hitting pushing me to be the best I can be,” Dolby said. “I am a very competitive person, and I couldn’t imagine myself not playing softball in college. I love every aspect of the game.”
