Life After Loudoun: Heritage Grad Peters Connects for 100th Cornell Career Hit in His Return Home

PetersArlington (March 19, 2013) – A three-year starter for the Cornell Big Red baseball squad, senior Brenton Peters returned home to Virginia for a pair of double headers last weekend against the George Washington Colonials.

With his 100th and 101st career collegiate base hits, Peters went 2 for 3 in the final contest of the series. Serving as the Big Red’s leadoff batter and starting second basemen since his sophomore year, he added two walks and a run scored in the final game in his return back to the D.C. metropolitan area where he played at Heritage High School in Leesburg.

Four-years after graduating from Heritage High School, where he is still the all-time leader in runs scored, assists and double plays turned, Peters has made a name for himself in the Ivy League garnering All-Ivy League Honorable Mention honors last season.

Last season Peters led Cornell in runs scored, walks and hit by pitches while leading the Big Red to a regular season and post season Ivy League championship and an appearance in the NCAA Chapel Hill regional tournament where they lost two close games to the University of North Carolina and East Carolina University.

“Last year we played in some high intensity games and so far this season we’ve played a couple of tight games as well,” Peters said. “We’ve had the confidence and patience to know that we can win them. Each time we have been in a clutch situation we have not pressed, and it kind of has become a place where we thrive.”

Peters is expected to graduate in May and plans on pursuing a career in technology and business analysis in Pittsburgh.

On graduating and leaving his Big Red teammates Peters said, “I will miss my teammates after all these years. Guys from each team brought something unique to the table – skill and personality wise – and I’ll miss hanging out in the locker room and at the field with my closest friends.”
